What Volunteers Need to Know

THANK YOU for volunteering to work on the 2009 Yorkton Build.
Below is important information for volunteers. Please read.

General Information

  1. Site Location
    • 221 Betts Ave, Yorkton
  2. Site Hours
    • Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
    • The build day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 4:30 pm followed by site clean-up
    • It is important to arrive on time, as there is a sign-in process.
  3. Build Schedule
    • The first build will begin June 2nd.
  4. Cancellation Process
    • If you are unable to be on site for your scheduled workday, please call the office at 782-5453
  5. Weather Delay
    • If your activity is outdoors:
      • Do not come out if it is pouring. We will notify you of the rescheduled date.
      • If it is cloudy and threatening rain:
        • Go to the site and wait for instructions OR
        • Call the office at 782-5453
  6. Safety
    • Safety Shoes
      • Are required on site for everyone, with the exception of volunteers involved in Food Services. The shoes should be CSA approved with steel toecaps and a steel shank down the sole, preference is for shoes with ankle support.
      • Wear your own, borrow from family and friends.
    • If you want to purchase your own safety shoes try: Marks Work Warehouse
    • Hardhats - Are mandatory for everyone on the build site & will be provided.
    • Safety Goggles – will be provided for those tasks requiring them.
    • Work Gloves – will be provided for each volunteer.
    • Safety Training
      • Is required by every volunteer & will be done first thing on arrival at site.
    • Clothing
      • Do not wear loose fitting clothing or loose jewelry – think safety first.
  7. When You Arrive at The Site
    • Sign in at the host trailer
    • Find your assigned crew leader
    • Tools
      • If you have your own tools, label them;
      • If not, pick the tools you will require for your assigned duties
    • Pick up hardhats, tie your safety shoes
    • Start working
  8. When You Leave The Site
    • Check in the tools, hardhat, safety goggles, and shoes you have been working with:
      • For those who bring their own tools, check to make sure you have yours and we have ours.
    • Sign out at the host tent or trailer
    • If you must track your volunteer hours, have forms provided by your organization signed by your crew leader
  9. Host Services
    • Food Services
      • Lunch will be provided by Habitat for Humanity Yorkton
      • Meals will be served on site
      • Bring your own water bottle – water coolers are available for refills.
    • Shelter
      • A shelter will be on site for rest periods and coffee breaks
    • Restrooms
      • Temporary restrooms will be on site
    • Wash-up Facilities
      • Large tubs of water will be available for wash-up until running water is available on site.
  10. Who is allowed on site
    • Anyone over the age of 16 accompanied by an adult; children under the age of 16 are not allowed on site.
