We are an independently funded affiliate of Habitat for humanity International. Donations to habitat International fund housing programs overseas and donations to Habitat for Humanity Yorkton fund housing programs in our local district

Who founded Habitat for Humanity?

Since its founding in 1976 by Millard and LInda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 300,000 houses with partner families, helping house more than 1.5 million people and becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing.

Who is Jimmy Carter?

Jimmy Carter is one of the most highly recognized and reputable volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter's involvement with habitat for humanity International began in 1984 when the former president led a work group to New York City to help renovate a six-story building with 19 families in need of decent, affordable shelter. That experience planted the seed, and the Carter Work Project has been an internationally recognized event of HFHI ever since. Each year, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter give a week of their time - along with their construction skills - to build homes and raise awareness of the critical need for affordable housing

What is the cost of a Habitat for Humanity Yorkton home?

Currently, a three-bedroom habitat home in Yorkton costs between $90,000and $120,000. Prices will differ slightly depending on location and the costs of land, labour and materials.

Habitat homes are affordable for low-income families because there is no profit included in the sale price, and no interest is charged on the mortgage.

What happens when the income/financial position of a family changes?

The income of all Habitat homeowners is reviewed on an annual basis. If income increases, monthly payments of their mortgage, property tax, insurance and condominium fees are adjusted to remain at 30% of their monthly income. If income decreases, usually due to a temporary situation such as a job loss, similar adjustments may be made to maintain affordability during this period of decreased cash flow.

How can I volunteer?

Individuals, skilled workers in the building trades, groups from companies, congregations, local organizations, and national service volunteers can all lend a hand. Go to the VOLUNTEER PAGE for more information and to access a copy of our volunteer application form.

How can I donate?

Individuals, corporations, faith groups and local organizations can donate, sponsor or send groups for team building to local build sites. The building trades can arrange in-kind sponsorships of new materials needed in construction. you can also make your tax-deductable donation using our secure online donation form.
